A Comprehensive Guide to Student Supports at Trent

The transition to university is exciting: it's a whole new world where you're learning new things, finding independence, navigating new challenges, meeting new people, and discovering who you are.

This can also be overwhelming, but don't worry. Trent’s Student Affairs team is here to help you every step of the way. We're dedicated to providing our students with all the support and services they need to achieve their goals and succeed both academically and personally. Here are just some of the resources we offer:

Academic Support: When it comes to academic success, they offer tons of helpful resources through Academic Skills (@trentuacademicskills). From writing to citation; study skills, time management, and more - whether you need help with a specific class or just want to improve your overall study habits, our Academic Skills team has everything you need to succeed.

Looking for advice on next steps in your degree? Connect with our Academic Advising (@trentuadvising) team who will help you navigate your way through your Trent degree.

Health and Wellness Services (@trentSWC): Taking care of your health and well-being is super important, which is why Trent offers counselling, health, and accessibility supports and services. The best part? These resources are all totally free for students, so you can focus on feeling your best and achieving your goals.

Careerspace (@trentucareerspace): Trent wants to help you achieve your career aspirations. Through Careerspace, the University offers co-op placement support, job fairs, community-based research projects, career counselling, resume and cover letter assistance, and experiential learning opportunities to help you develop the skills and connections you need to succeed in the workforce. Looking for a job? Check out one of the many on-campus student jobs through the Student Experience Portal (SEP). No matter where you are on your career journey, the Careerspace team is here to help.

Get Involved: There's a whole lot more to university life than just classes. Trent offers a super supportive and fun student community, with tons of clubs and organizations, recreational facilities, events, and activities. These resources provide students with opportunities to get involved on campus, connect with their peers, and build lifelong friendships.

Financial Support: Get help funding your education. Trent offers many scholarships and bursaries to domestic and international students to assist with some of the costs associated with attending university, such as tuition, books, housing, and groceries. These financial resources are designed to help you manage your budget and make the most of your time at Trent.

Technology Support: Technology is super important to university life, and Trent offers lots of resources to help you succeed in our digital world. They have computer labs, printing services, and technical support to make sure you have everything you need to stay on top of your work.

Library Services: Trent's libraries, Bata Library (@batalibrary) in Peterborough and the Trent Durham-GTA Library (@trentdurhamlibrary), are incredible resources for students. You get access to online databases, borrowing privileges, and research help. Whether you're working on a big project or just looking for information on a particular topic, the library team is always here to help.

Peer Support (@peersupporttrent): Trent offers an amazing Peer Support program. It's run by students, for students, and provides a safe and supportive space for you to connect with your peers, share your experiences, and build meaningful relationships.

You Belong Here (@youbelongheretrentu): Find a space and place where you belong. You Belong Here is a support network designed to provide you with a sense of belonging and community. Through a range of initiatives and programs, You Belong Here helps you connect with peers and develop a community. By fostering a supportive and inclusive community, you can be empowered to succeed academically, socially, and personally during your time at Trent.
