‘Phenomenal Success’: Giving Tuesday Supporters Raise $771,855 to Support Trent Students
The Trent community joined together to raise an amazing $771,855 on Giving Tuesday (November 29) - more than quadrupling last year’s total of $172,000 - to help students overcome challenges and enrich their academic journey as they pursue their dreams.
Highlights from Trent's historic and record-setting #GivingTuesdayCA include a $200,000 donation from professors emeriti Dr. Alena Heitlinger and Dr. David Morrison to establish a scholarship and leadership award for students who are refugees, and a $200,000 donation to Catharine Parr Traill College from Greg Piasetzki ’72 and Laura Piasetzki.
The University’s collegiate communities benefitted greatly from various matching opportunities thanks to generous alumni and other donors.
“The day that’s widely considered ‘opening day’ of the holiday season of giving was a phenomenal success and we are so thankful to alumni, staff, faculty and the broader community for believing in our students’ futures,” said Sherry Booth ’98, associate vice-president, Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement. “These gifts allow us to continue investing in areas such as mentoring, scholarships, on-campus employment and mental-health supports as we shape the next generation of leaders.”
Giving Tuesday donors were able to choose an area of interest including the Trent Fund, Trent Colleges, Athletics and Trent University Durham Greater Toronto Area.
