Applicants to the Cultural Studies Ph.D. program should have an M.A. in cultural studies or cognate discipline, with a minimum average grade of 80%. Successful applicants will have demonstrated intellectual ability, including excellent reading and writing skills, as well as additional interests and background consonant with the emphases and aims of the program. An original and innovative dissertation proposal is also required.
Plan of Study
Your plan of study should indicate:
- your area of interest
- what course work or other relevant work you have done in this area
- what works of literature and scholarship have influenced your decision to pursue studies this area
Your writing sample should consist of a piece of academic writing, in most cases a university course essay of 10-20 pages, on a topic relevant to your proposed studies. Writing samples must be submitted electronically by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Preferred format is PDF. Please indicate in the subject line of your email: student name and program choice. Hard copies will not be accepted.
