Winter Term Announcement
I have been impressed with how effectively our campus community has adapted to the challenges and opportunities of multi-access teaching and learning this term – and am pleased to share that the University will increase the number of in-person courses for the coming winter 2021 term, offering a mix of in-person, online and remote options in our multi-access approach. With our campuses and regions doing well, our decision-making continues to be guided by the evolving COVID-19 scenario and by our Trent Forward plan, in collaboration with public health.
As we plan for another multi-access term, the University is exploring opportunities to increase the number of in-person courses, in a way that protects the health and safety of the entire Trent community and provides students with as much flexibility and choice as possible. For example, we will offer more sections of the popular 1004H Critical Engagement course with its student-to-faculty ratio of 20-to-one. I and a number of deans and principals are eager to teach this course in January. Our full range of wrap-around student supports and services will continue through the Student Support Hubs and the Colleges on campus, as well as online.
Departments have begun to plan for the winter term. The timetable will be updated gradually as information becomes available and finalized by early November. Students should be reassured that many courses offered in person will also be made available with options for remote or online learning. Thanks to careful planning, attention to student feedback, and the commitment of our staff and faculty, we will continue to deliver the exceptional academic and student life experience for which Trent is renowned.
About Multi-Access Learning
Trent’s multi-access approach was developed to ensure uninterrupted learning for our students during this time of fluidity and change. Multi-access learning is our commitment to delivering a flexible, safe and high-quality educational experience for our students in this very different year. Courses will be available through a combination of online and remote delivery and, in more cases this winter, in-person instruction at both campuses.
Our commitment remains a safe and healthy Trent, and to providing all our students – wherever they may be – with a high quality, engaging student experience.
