Convocation is a very special and memorable time in the lives of Trent graduates - a time when they bring their families and friends to campus to celebrate their achievements. It’s a wonderful event to be part of and a refreshing change to the normal work routine.
Every year, its success depends on the time, energy and commitment of more than 100 staff, faculty, retirees, student and alumni ambassadors.
The Peterborough Convocation ceremonies take place June 6, 7, 8 & 9, 2017. You can help for one ceremony, one day or all ceremonies - whatever fits your schedule.
Come out and experience it! The main roles are ushering, helping gown the students, and marshalling the students in order for the procession.
Gowning - greet students, find appropriate size gown based on their height, and correct hood for the degree they are receiving. Remind them to hold on to their name cards. More information here!
Marshalling - organize students by type of degree and in alphabetical order and ensure they stay in order during walk to Bata. Hand out water bottles. Assist inside if inclement weather. More information here!
Accessible Ushering - offer assistance to anyone with accessibility needs being dropped off at the Bata steps. Wheelchairs are available if needed to bring guests to the accessible area. More information here!
West Bank Ushering - hand out programs, answer questions and provide assistance for guests. Help clear the way for the processions at the beginning and end of the ceremonies. More information here!
East Bank Ushering - direct guests to the Bata library, hand out programs, answer questions and provide assistance. Help clear the way for the processions at the beginning and end of the ceremonies. More information here!
There is an orientation session whose time and date are to be confirmed, and there are experienced ambassadors in each of the roles that can assist you.
