Backyard Chickens 101

Saturday December 9th, 2017, 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

Location: Traill College, Scott House 105.

Cost: $30.00 per workshop (+HST).

This three-hour workshop will provide a fun and engaging introduction to raising a healthy and happy small flock of hens. Topics will include: understanding local and provincial rules, coop design and construction, basic chicken anatomy, breed and feed selection, and addressing health and behavior issues.

About the instructor:

Paul Longhurst runs a small-scale, organic farm in Lakefield. He raises pastured heritage-breed pigs, ducks, and chickens for meat and eggs, and grows market vegetables for a community-shared agriculture program. He is passionate about local foods, ethical meat production, and community-building.
