Gzowski College Certificate
The Gzowski Certificate is a new initiative. To review the frequently asked questions about the certificate click here.
It has been developed to enable students to add something extra to their resumes. It enables students to take part in a variety of events and activities around Gzowski College and on campus with a diverse range of learning opportunities and a Certificate to prove it!
What does it involve?
The certificate requires students to attend a minimum of 6 events or activities which will enhance student’s employability and awareness.
There is no time limit for completion. It just needs to be completed before graduation.
The certificate program has 5 categories for event attendance:
· Social Responsibility & Civic Engagement
· Career Readiness
· Cultural Awareness
· Entrepreneurship & Social Innovation.
The table below shows the minimum requirements in each category for each certificate:
|Category||1) Community Engagement and Career-Readiness||2) Community Engagement and Leadership||3) Community and Indigenous Engagement||4)Social Innovation, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship|
|Social Responsibility & Civic Engagement||1||1||1||1|
|Social Innovation and Enterprise||3|
|Additional workshops required from any category||3||1|
|Minimum number of workshops to complete the certificate||6||6||6||6|
How is the process managed:
The first step is to register for the program. This will enable us to email you about events that qualify for the certificate program and how to register for them at the event.
Students are responsible for confirming their attendance at events. Different events will have different ways of confirming attendance. It may involve tapping in with your TrentU card, completing a sign in sheet, registering for tickets for events or completing an Event Completion Form. If you complete a paper Event Completion Form you will need to hand it in at the Gzowski College Office after the event.
The process is being managed through the Co-curricular record. You can find out more on the co-curricular website.
You will need to apply on the co-curricular record to have the event / activity approved.
The certificate can be applied for once you have the minimum number of events / activities showing on your co-curricular record. You can also wait until your graduation year and add additional events.
The certificate and co-curricular record can then be used alongside your resume to enhance job applications.
When you have met the criteria for a certificate and the events are showing on your co-curricular record please click the link below.
We are still in the process of planning events for next year.
For more detail and up to date information on events please visit the Gzowski Calendar of events.
From here you can:
- See which events qualify as an activity for the Gzowski Certificate. They start with *.
- Download events to your calendar.
- In the event detail you can see how to register at each event.
If a student wants to attend an event or activity that they think should count towards their certificate that is not currently included in the calendar they have two options.
Students can come into the College Office before the event and check if it qualifies, or attend the event and request it to qualify afterwards. Both options will require the student to complete a Gzowski Certificate Event Completion Form. Once this has been handed into the Gzowski Office you will receive confirmation on whether the event counts towards your certificate and how to add it to the co-curricular record.
This shows the how the current scheduled events fit into each category.
