Your College in the Morning: New Radio Show Pays Tribute to Peter Gzowski

Student Elias Trivett interviews Alison Gzowski and Shelagh Rogers about their experiences with Peter Gzowski

A new Trent Radio show started by student ambassadors at Peter Gzowski College had a heartwarming start with two guests who were very close to the college’s namesake. Alison Gzowski, the late Peter Gzowski’s daughter, and Shelagh Rogers, renowned host of CBC Radio’s The Next Chapter and longtime friend and colleague to Peter, took time to sit down and remember Peter and the significance of his influence on both their lives.

The course of the conversation reflects the many sides of Peter – as a nationally recognized CBC Radio host and a father and friend outside of work. The first episode of Your College in the Morning shares the story of Peter – a very down-to-earth person whose influence on those around him continues to be felt.

At one point in the interview, Shelagh recalls her first time meeting Peter.

“He told me, ‘You shouldn’t be nervous, I’m the guy who can’t remember to put his socks on in the morning,’ and he lifted up his pant leg and showed me that he didn’t have any socks.”

Your College in the Morning – a nod to Peter’s first radio show This Country in the Morning – promises students the opportunity to learn more about Trent, the history behind it, and some of the spaces, places, and people that make the Trent experience worth talking about.

Listen to the first four episodes of Your College in the Morning – out now on YouTube.
