University announces $5 Million Campaign for Trent Colleges to enhance the transformative Trent experience

Trent University leaders, alumni, staff and faculty gathered for the announcement of the Campaign for Trent Colleges alongside college mascots.

Trent University’s colleges have been at the centre of the student experience for over 50 years. To ensure this unique collegiate environment remains at the heart of the University for generations to come, Trent has launched a $5 million Campaign for Trent Colleges.

Announced on Saturday, October 5, 2019, as part of the Head of the Trent Regatta and Homecoming weekend, the campaign features a $1 million goal for each of Trent’s five colleges – Champlain, Gzowski, Lady Eaton, Otonabee, and Traill – to enhance endowments dedicated to supporting college life. These funds will be used each year to build on Trent’s rich collegiate history, and make direct and immediate differences in the lives of Trent students.

“Trent’s history as a collegiate university is part of what makes us unique and successful,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “The collegiate system offers unique learning opportunities outside of the classroom, enhances the diversity of our campus community, helps students form life-long friendships, and shapes a huge part of the Trent experience. The Campaign for Trent Colleges will build endowments to strengthen The Trent experience and ensure that students find meaningful connections with faculty and peers, create a “home away from home,” and engage in learning and social opportunities crucial to student growth.”

The Campaign for Trent Colleges will support all five Trent Colleges: Champlain College, Otonabee College, Gzowski College, Lady Eaton College and Traill College. Trent’s college principals, Melanie Buddle (Gzowski), Tina Fridgen ’95 (Champlain), Christine Freeman-Roth (Lady Eaton), Stephanie Muehlethaler (Otonabee), and Michael Eamon (Traill), are leading their colleges in a way that increases faculty participation, enhances the colleges’ unique identities, elevates students’ incomparable Trent experience, and promotes philanthropic support in an effort to make our college system more sustainable over the long term.

Thanks to the generosity of alumni, staff, faculty, and University contributions, over $900,000 has been raised to establish college endowments. This momentum has helped invigorate the revitalization of Trent’s college system. With the Campaign for Trent Colleges, Trent plans to deepen its college roots and enrich experiences for students and faculty.
