Trent University Hosts International Conference on Building Collegiate Communities in Post-Pandemic Environments
Students, staff, and faculty from over 16 institutions in seven different countries will gather virtually for the 2022 Collegiate Way International (CWI) Conference, hosted by Trent University May 18-20, 2022.
“The online conference will specifically focus on Collegiate Communities in a Changing World – allowing attendees to hear different perspectives on how the pandemic has affected higher education,” says Dr. Michael Eamon, principal of Catharine Parr Traill College at Trent University and chair of CWI. “Participants will leave the conference with shared knowledge on the way forward as well as a renewed hope and energy to push the boundaries of higher education in a post-pandemic environment.”
Established in 2014, CWI is a world-wide association of university colleges. This year’s conference is the organization’s fourth and provides an opportunity for university colleges around the world to come together, share ideas, and promote the collegiate way of interdisciplinary scholarship, academic integrity, civic awareness and humility.
As a founding member of CWI, and Ontario’s top undergraduate university, Trent’s hosting of the 2022 CWI Conference further underscores the University’s role on the international stage of higher education.
“Trent was conceived as a ready-made collegiate university – and is the perfect backdrop for a conference that serves as such an important venue for administrators and professors at university colleges to share best practices or work together on common issues,” says Principal Eamon. “The collegiate style of education emphasizes small classes, interdisciplinary learning, greater faculty-student interaction, and the formation of safe and engaging residential communities – which is exactly what you’ll find at Trent University.”
Given many restrictions still limiting international travel, coordinating this year’s event was no small task, explains Professor Eamon, and was a group effort between the international members of CWI and the principals of Trent University.
