Managing Cleantech Commons

Cleantech Commons is a partnership between the City of Peterborough and Trent University and is being overseen by a Management Board, with equal representation of senior staff from Trent and the City, that reports to the Board of Governors of Trent University and to the City of Peterborough.

Trent will lease the first 25 acres of land to the City under a long-term head lease. The City will, in turn, create subleases with each of the Park’s tenants. The City will be responsible for providing services to the Park and building common park infrastructure. There are 85 acres of land set aside for the research park that will be introduced in phases as the park grows.

Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development, funded by both the City and County of Peterborough, is recruiting potential tenants whose businesses match the vision for Cleantech Commons. Prospective tenants will be scored on a variety of criteria including the impact on strengthening, diversifying or improving the tenant mix in Cleantech Commons, the current or potential relationship to the University, and the potential for growth and expansion. The Management Board of Cleantech Commons will review each potential tenant for approval.

Once a tenant is approved, the City will lease the specific site within the park and work with the tenant to ensure their building meets the guidelines in the Cleantech Commons Master Plan.
