Apply Yourself: Writing the Graduate School Personal Statement

A Joint Workshop from Careerspace and Academic Skills
This workshop explores the graduate school personal statement, focussing not only on what to write but also how to write it. A career counsellor will discuss different types of personal statements for both graduate school and professional schools. As well, she will discuss how to describe your skills, interests and accomplishments so that you demonstrate your interest in and knowledge of your chosen profession or discipline. An academic skills instructor will focus on how to craft clear and engaging prose as well as how to edit and proofread your statement.

In Canada, the main difference between a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a résumé is that a CV is usually used when applying for academic positions (sometimes also for applying to professional and graduate programs).  This workshop reviews the content of both documents and covers the differences.  Depending on your situation, you might need both.
