On-campus Jobs

Finding an on-campus job is like looking for any kind of job.  The first step is to start with a great résumé, tailored to the position. All of the on-campus job postings we receive are posted on the Student Job Board.  It's also important to get to know your professors and keep your eyes open for opportunity.  Networking and talking to Trent faculty and staff is a great way to hear about potential jobs.  Remember to visit Careerspace and attend our workshops for more info.

TWSP - Trent Work Study Program

The Trent Work Study Program provides part-time jobs on-campus for Canadian students in financial need. Jobs may be structured to fit your academic timetable.

TWSP Frequently Asked Questions - Resource for On-Campus Students »

Eligibility/Criteria:

  • You must qualify for, and receive, OSAP funding, or funding from another provincial student aid program for the current year. (If you are only getting the 30% Off Ontario Tuition grant, you do not qualify for TWSP jobs.)
  • You must be a Canadian resident.
  • You must be registered as a full-time student, as defined by OSAP.
    • 60% of a full course load (1.5 credits per term).
    • 40% of a full course load (1.0 credits per term) for students with a permanent disability.
  • You must provide proof of eligibility after the first day of classes in each term (Fall and Winter).
  • Ensure that you inform your employers if you are employed in more than one TWSP funded position.

Process for Obtaining Proof of Eligibility:

  • No TWSP application is required. All students receiving OSAP, or funding from another provincial student aid program, are automatically eligible for the TWSP program.
  • All eligible students will receive this proof of eligibility by way of email on the first day of classes.
  • You will be required to show this email as your proof of eligibility for TWSP on-campus positions.
  • If you are not eligible on the first day of classes, you can obtain your eligibility by contacting registrar@trentu.ca or by calling 705-748-1215 or by visiting in person at 101 Blackburn Hall.
  • Student can obtain proof of eligibility up until the last day of the first month of each term (September 30 in Fall and January 31 in Winter).

How to Apply to On-Campus TWSP positions:

TWSP positions are posted on the Student Job Board.
Students can access the Student Job Board via the Student Experience Portal OR via MyTrent > Support > Campus Support > Student and Alumni Job Board.
Once in the Student Experience Portal, navigate to the Student Job Board dashboard.
Under 'Quick Searches', look for TWSP Peterborough On-Campus positions or TWSP Durham On-Campus positions.
Hiring departments will arrange their own interviews. It is up to you to show your proof of eligibility as soon as you are able to.

TI - Trent International Subsidy

Trent International provides subsidies for on-campus part-time jobs for International students. To be eligible, you must have a valid study permit. Positions are posted on the Student Job Board, typically in August/September and have "TI" written in the job title and described in the job posting. Trent International students can also apply to any regular on-campus job (i.e. not TWSP funded).

Off-campus Jobs

If you are looking for off-campus jobs during the school year or after you graduate, all postings Careerspace hears about are posted on the Student Job Board. Off-campus jobs are listed there under the "External" tab.   Also, check out our external links for government and other job boards. Don't forget to attend our Job Fairs.  These are great opportunities to meet employers and apply for positions.  Still need help? Attend one of our résumé or work search workshops.

Summer Jobs

Be sure to attend the Summer Job Fair!  This is a great opportunity to meet employers and apply for positions.  All postings Careerspace hears about are posted on the Student Job Board. Also, check out our external links for government and other job boards.  Still need help? Attend one of our résumé or work search workshops.

Graduate Year Recruitment

Graduate year recruitment normally consists of positions of a professional nature. Graduate year recruitment begins early in your graduating year, so be sure to start your work search as soon as you arrive back at school in September. If you leave it until a couple of months before you graduate, you will miss out on a lot of opportunities.

Employers use various methods to recruit graduates which include conducting information sessions on campus to inform students of their opportunities, setting up displays, and conducting first-interviews on campus. Connect with us on social media to keep informed about upcoming employer visits and events on campus.
