Canada’s Top Literary Talent Welcomed to Trent University for 30th Anniversary Season of Writers Reading Series
The annual Writers Reading Series is back at Trent University and its 30th season is shaping up to be the place to be for readers and writers alike this fall.
For the 2018 series, Trent will welcome: two Trent graduates, Jessica Westhead and Richard Harrison; two members of the Order of Canada, David Adams Richards and Dennis Lee; the first francophone of the series Catherine Leroux; a winner of the Journey prize, Naben Ruthnum; and 2017 Giller Prize winner Michael Redhill. The series kicks off Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Traill College.
“Best-selling authors who have done hundreds of these things and have been published around the world routinely express their appreciation for our series and affection for our audiences. We are glad to have so many original and interesting voices visiting the University,” says series host and professor of English Literature at Trent, Dr. Lewis MacLeod.
Hosted each year by Trent’s English Literature department, the Writers Reading Series provides members of the Trent and Peterborough communities with the opportunity to meet and converse with the minds behind the country’s favourite poems, essays, short stories, and novels.
“It's always great to see students and members of the community interact with the writers,” adds Professor MacLeod. “With tremendous growth over the last several years, this series attracts writers with worldwide reputations who are keen to come to Trent.”
Readings are held each week at 7:00 p.m. in the Scott House Junior Common Room at Catharine Parr Traill College, located at 310 London Street. Following each reading, the festivities continue as authors and audience members are invited to an informal reception at The Trend.
As an added benefit for English Literature students, those who attend all of the readings will be gifted a personalized limerick by one of the a-list authors who have participated in the series over the years.
