Field Placement and Internship

The real-world is at our doorstep.

In the School of Business, students have the chance to truly launch their career, even before graduation. Field Placements offer students hands-on practical learning opportunities/work experience, while gaining real-world professional skills and connections to professionals in their chosen field of interest.

Field Placements have been part of the program for many years and are available in a variety of business sectors within the Peterborough and Durham Regions.

Beginning in January 2021, the School of Business will offer its first Internships in Accounting to students in Peterborough.

A Field Placement is an opportunity that provides students with a part-time/short term experience that is for academic credit, is generally unpaid, less than 10 hours/week, and takes place in a setting relevant to their subject of study.  In the School of Business, placement opportunities are normally available in the fall or winter term of fourth year and involve a minimum of 100 hours of placement experience at a local business. Open to BBA single majors and business joint majors. Student application deadline is July 15 for the fall term and October 15 for the winter term.  Limited enrolment.

Fact Sheet - Placements

An Internship is an opportunity where students gain a program-related experience in a professional work environment for at least one semester full time. Supervised, discipline specific work experience completed for academic credit and can be paid or unpaid.  In the School of Business, internships will be 6, 8, or 12 months of paid full time job experience. Open only to BBA single majors. An Internship is currently only available with a January start and in accounting and it will delay graduation.  Accounting internship opportunities will be available in January 2021
