Trent student Tanner Ahola has never been one to sit idle; his lifelong involvement in athletics offering is full evidence of that.
“I played a ton of high school sports,” reflects Mr. Ahola. “I love being around the gym. Fitness has always been important to me.”
At Trent, the Bachelor of Education student has immersed himself in athletics at the recreational level, convening the futsal (five-per-side indoor soccer) and spikeball leagues. He also plays recreational volleyball and dodgeball. If that’s not enough to keep him busy, Mr. Ahola also works part-time staffing the Fit Desk in the Athletics Centre.
“A lot of my time is spent in the gym,” says Mr. Ahola. “If there’s an opportunity for me to be doing something and having fun, I take it. I like to be involved and Trent offers that opportunity.”
Mr. Ahola says the real value of the many recreational sport offerings at Trent lies in their bringing together students from all different backgrounds.
“And having an opportunity to play sports with other like-minded individuals is a great stress reliever,” he adds.
“The great thing about campus recreation programs is they’re multi-level,” he adds. “You have an intramural level purely for fun but, within that, you have a competitive and a more beginner level. We have a lot of laughs. I think we probably have too much fun.”
