Inclement Weather: What You Should Know

During most winter weather, the campus remains open and activities remain unaffected

Winter weather can cause concern and confusion among students, faculty and staff and questions often arise about whether Trent’s campuses remain open or closed.

Snow, freezing rain and other winter weather can make travel difficult. And different organizations have their own protocols and procedures for addressing weather. This means that even if a school board decides to cancel school buses, the University does not necessarily close.

At Trent, during most winter weather, our campuses remain open and classes or exams remain unaffected. Read the University Class Cancellation and Closing Procedures.

With the safety of the Trent community always a top consideration, there may be some instances, or implications (e.g. power outages), of severe winter weather that may result in a disruption of services. In more extreme cases, this may lead to the closure of the University and/or the cancelling of classes or exams.

To keep the Trent community informed and up-to-date on significant weather events, the University will post notifications at trentu.ca, with full details at trentu.ca/advisory. The notification will also be posted to the MyTrent portal and the Info Trent line at 705-748-1234 and shared on the University’s Facebook and @trentuniversity Twitter accounts.

In the case of winter weather, the University advises our community to use caution on pathways, parking lots and stairways on campuses. Students, faculty and staff should always decide if travel is safe for you. Students who cannot make their way to campus during inclement weather should contact their instructor directly to make alternate academic arrangements.

Winter weather during exams

During exam periods, when inclement weather hits or is expected, every effort is made to keep the University open and exams running as scheduled, bearing in mind the health and safety of our students and staff.

In the event of inclement weather, students should look for an update on the University's operations and exam schedule at trentu.ca two hours prior to the start of each exam:

6:00 a.m. update for 8:00 a.m. exams
9:00 a.m. update for 11:00 a.m. exams
1:00 p.m  update for 3:00 p.m. exams
5:00 p.m. update for 7:00 p.m. exams
