Investigating the Long-Term Impacts of Ancient Pollution in the Wadi Faynan, Jordan by Professor Alexis Dolphin – University of Waterloo
Early Bronze Age burials at Wadi Faynan 100 (WF100) as well as others in the Wadi Faynan region of southern Jordan are being studied in order to comment upon the long-term footprint of anthropogenic pollution. To this end, human remains are currently undergoing osteobiographical and chemical analyses in order to assess the impacts of paleopollution and environmental change on human health. As with many other archaeological sites in Jordan, evidence of looting is apparent at WF100. This presentation will explore how we are working toward addressing a large and complex question about the long-term exposure of peoples to pollutants using human remains from these disturbed contexts.
