New Frontiers in Research Fund Exploration Stream– Information and Webinar!
The 2024 Exploration stream competition of the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) was launched on April 30th, 2024. The Exploration competition has two stages:
- Notice of Intent to Apply (NOI) stage with a deadline of August 27th, 2024 (at 8 p.m. Eastern Time)
- Full Application stage with a deadline of November 5th, 2024 (at 8 p.m. Eastern Time)
Applications at each stage must be submitted internally.

SSHRC Offering Connection Grants Webinar – May 28th – Updated Link
SSHRC will hold webinars for applicants and research administrators to provide information and answer questions about Connection Grants.
The English session will be offered on May 28th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. The password to attend is CG_May24, event number 2340 636 0553. Join here.
Please also note that the August 1 deadline for Connection Grants has moved forward to June 20. This is a one-time change for the 2024-25 cycle.
Going forward, the standard application deadlines will be in place.
NSERC Alliance Grants Virtual Information Session
The Office of Research and Innovation will hold an online Information Session Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. on NSERC Alliance Grants.
Presented by NSERC Program Officers, Maja Bracovic and Saman Rauf, the information session will mainly focus on Alliance Advantage, and also touch on Alliance Society, providing an introduction and overview on how to apply, highlight recent changes to NSERC's Alliance grants program, and a Q&A session to follow the presentation.
Register in advance for this session. After registration, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Funding Opportunities
Letters of Intent are now being accepted by NSERC for the Discovery Horizons program. This program supports Discovery research projects that aim to answer natural sciences and engineering (NSE) research questions that are best addressed through interdisciplinary approaches and advance NSE disciplines through new ways of thinking about research questions, approaches, and methods. Individuals cannot hold both a Discovery Grant and Discovery Horizons grant.
Letters of Intent are due by June 14. Full applications are due by October 18.

Climate Change and Infrastructure Expertise Tender is Now Open
National Individual Standing Offers (SO) are required to solicit offerors for a list of subject-matter experts that may be contracted by Infrastructure Canada to provide expert technical and advisory services in fields associated with low-carbon and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Bidding closes on May 23, 2:00 pm EDT.

Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund (CMIF) – Indigenous Grants Program
Applications are now being accepted for the CMIF. The CMIF supports the development and deployment of clean energy and transportation infrastructure that will enable the development and expansion of critical minerals projects in Canada. Indigenous engagement is a crucial part of this infrastructure and mining development. The program supports Indigenous engagement, knowledge sharing, and capacity building related to clean energy and transportation projects that would enable critical minerals development.
Applications will be accepted until December 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Internal Call for Nominations: Ontario Early Researcher Awards
Trent University, through the Office of Research and Innovation, is pleased to announce an internal call for proposals for the Ontario government’s Early Researcher Awards Program (ERA). This program provides funding to new researchers (individuals) from all disciplines working at publicly funded Ontario research institutions.
Internal nomination packages are due by 4:30pm on My 30th, 2024.
Packages must be combined into one document and submitted electronically (pdf format) to the Office of Research and Innovation at researchsupport@trentu.ca. Late submissions will not be considered.

Reminders
Trent University Knowledge Mobilization Grant– Applications due May 27th
A reminder that complete applications for Trent University’s Spring 2024 Knowledge Mobilization Grant are due by May 27, 2024.
This internal award supports active faculty participation at scholarly conferences and other dissemination venues, and the organization of small-scale knowledge mobilization activities.

Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern Policy Implementation & Webinars
The Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC) Policy will be applied to all funding opportunities that launch as of May 1st onward.
Grant applications submitted to the Tri-Agency or CFI involving research that aims to advance a Sensitive Technology Research Area will not be funded if any of the researchers involved in activities supported by the grant are currently affiliated with, or in receipt of funding or in-kind support, from a Named Research Organization.
