Mr. Michael Doran
Research Technician
Dr. Hayla Evans
Business Manager
Hayla took over the responsibilities of Business Manager for the Water Quality Centre in September 2006. She holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Toronto and an M.Sc. from the Freshwater Science Program at Trent University.
ICP-MS Senior Research Scientist
Bastian joined the Water Quality Centre in January 2010. A native of Germany, he received his Ph.D. from ETH in Zurich, Switzerland in 2006. Hiis current research projects include tracing nutrient fluxes in the environment, estimating the variability of past continental weathering from marine isotope proxies, and tracing heavy metal contaminants in the environment. His main research interest is the response of continental weathering to climate change and the potential effects these changes might have on nutrient cycles and the environment.

Dr. Jean-François Koprivnjak
Research Associate/Principal Operator-Isoprimes
Jean-François joined the Water Quality Centre in January 2010. He received his Ph.D. (2007) in Aquatic Geochemistry from the Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology after which he became a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Environmental & Resource Studies Program at Trent University. He also lectures in The Geochemistry of Natural Waters and The Fate of Contaminants in the Aquatic Environment. His current research focuses on the spatial and temporal characterization of dissolved organic matter in natural waters.

Dr. Karla Newman
ICP-MS Research Scientist/Principal Operator - Nu Attom
Karla joined the Water Quality Centre, part-time, in February 2010. As principal operator of the Nu Attom ICP-MS she brings a wealth of experience to the job having worked for Nu Instruments Ltd. in the UK for the past 2 years. Her research to date has focused on instrument development in the field of plasma source mass spectrometry, with experience in quadrupole, ion trap and magnetic sector instruments. Recent projects include the development of high sensitivity skimmer cones for ICP-MS. She completed her undergraduate degree, M.Sc. (Chemistry) in 2002 and her Ph.D. (Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry) in 2005, all at the University of Wales at Swansea.

Dr. Naomi Stock
Research Associate/Principal Operator- Organic Mass Spectrometers
Naomi joined the Water Quality Centre in July 2008. As principal operator of the organic mass spectrometers, her research focuses on the development of analytical methods for determination and identification of organic contaminants in environmental samples and naturally occurring compounds of environmental interest. She has experience with both liquid and gas chromatography coupled with a variety of mass spectrometers including single and triple quadruples, ion traps and time-of-flight instruments. Her most recent projects employ the use of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometery (LC-MS/MS) to investigate the environmental fate and distribution of perfluorinated compounds. Naomi holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Toronto and a M.Sc. in Chemistry and Toxicology from the University of Guelph.
