Dr. R. D. Evans (devans@trentu.ca)

Professor - Environmental and Resource Studies

Dr. Douglas Evans has been at Trent for over 25 years. His research focuses on the geochemical control of trace metal and radionuclide distribution in the environment, particularly as it relates to the uptake of metals by aquatic organisms.

Dr. Evans' obtained Trent’s first ICP-MS through an NSERC Major Equipment Grant in the early 90s. Since then he has pioneered work in the use of stable isotopes as tracers of geochemical processes. This has included the development of techniques to simultaneously measure competing processes, for eg. uptake and depuration of metals such as Zn and Cd. He has also developed methods for the determination of the binding of trace metals to naturally-occurring ligands such as dissolved organic carbon, methods for measuring biological fractionation of metal isotopes and methods for the rapid measurement of radionuclides.
