SUPPORTIVE AND INCLUSIVE

GAIN CRUCIAL EXPERIENCE WHILE YOU’RE STUDYING
• Students who have applied to OSAP, whether or not a loan is offered, are also eligible for employment positions funded by the Ontario Work Study Program.
• Most departments at Trent University hire students on a part-time basis. Positions may include library assistants, lifeguards, research assistants, tour guides, college pub staff, disability services assistants, and student newspaper employees.
• International students may apply for a number of jobs. Qualified international students can apply for a work permit allowing part-time work off-campus up to 20 hours per week.

THE DISABILITY SERVICES OFFICE
Trent University provides support and advocacy services to students with physical, sensory, psychological or learning disabilities. Registered students have access to transcription services, individual exam supervision, specialized technology and classroom resources.

THE CAREER CENTRE
The Career Centre is open yearround for part-time and fulltime students as well as recent graduates who seek career and work-related information and guidance. Here, you'll find information on different career options, effective work-search strategies, as well as resources for graduate school and further education opportunities.

THE COUNSELLING CENTRE
Professional counsellors are available to help students cope with personal issues that might be interfering with academic performance and/or emotional well-being. This service is available to all students in both part-time and full-time programs on an individual, couple or group basis.

SUPPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
• TIP Camp: International students begin life at Trent with an orientation program held at a lakeside camp in northern Ontario. There they learn about social and academic life at the University and about living in Canada while experiencing hiking canoeing and swimming – or cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.
• Ongoing Services: immigration information, health care and medical insurance, employment opportunities, and other resources help students make a smooth transition within a new culture.

HEALTH SERVICES
A nurse and doctors are available on campus, Monday through Friday from September to April, to assist with medical and wellness issues. All services are completely confidential.

SERVICES FOR INDIGENOUS STUDENTS
Trent University offers several in-house student services for Indigenous students and for those students taking Indigenous Studies.
• The department has a Cultural Advisor available for consultation with students, staff and faculty regarding cultural appropriateness, protocol, ceremony and other related matters.
• The Indigenous Counsellor can assist with issues regarding university life and academics, as well as personal issues.

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT YOUR COURSES
• During the summer months, students have an opportunity to come to the campus, meet other students and register in courses they would like to take in September.
• Students have a chance to learn more about the programs offered at Trent during Introductory Seminar Week in September – a fun week of student-focused activities. Each program holds information seminars and introductory lectures to help students make the right choices. • Each student is assigned an academic advisor who can answer questions about course selections. Many students keep in touch with their advisors throughout their years of study at Trent.

BUILD ON YOUR ACADEMIC SKILLS
Make use of the Academic Skills Centre's range of academic support services including small-group workshops on essay-writing, study skills, note-taking, reading, grammar and style.

WORK WITH A MENTOR
Students can get help with specific course-related questions and concerns through the Academic Peer Mentoring Program – a resource run for and by students to connect students with mentors who are accomplished upper-year students.
