Current interests: Modern intellectual history, especially, French; media theory and social ontology; religion and postmodernity; time and contemporary culture.

Featherstone (Routledge, 1995); Shadow of Spirit: Religion and Post-modernism, co-editor with P. Berry (Routledge, 1992); Promotional Culture: Advertising, Ideology and Symbolic Expression (Sage, 1991); and many essays on social and cultural theory.
