Since starting at Trent on a contract basis in 1986, Professor Molly Blyth has taught in a variety of departments due to her interdisciplinary teaching and research focus. More often than not, her departmental affiliations are Canadian Studies, English Literature, and Indigenous Studies.

In addition to being a contract course instructor, Prof. Blyth holds a doctorate in Canadian Studies from the joint Trent/Carleton Ph.D. program in that field. She also holds an M.A. in English from York University.

Prof. Blyth is celebrated for her teaching, mentoring and support of students. Faculty, students and alumni, speak to her “compassionate” and “welcoming” classroom environments, and her “passionate ability” to encourage students to become “more critically and positively engaged citizens of the world.” She is described as a teacher of great "vigour”, one “who allows for deep discussions, with constructive criticism”, and one who “pushes her students to be better scholars”.
