Membership Policy Approved: February 14, 2003 The Seasoned Spoon Café Cooperative will offer a membership that will allow individuals to gain a greater sense of ownership and allow frequent visitors to receive a discount off of products. The membership option reinforces the principles on which the Spoon is based. By creating a sense of community, long-term support and commitment. As well membership fees raise funds that can be reinvested to improve the cooperative. Without discrimination, membership in the café shall be open to any individual or organization interested in its services and willing to support its co-operative organization, purposes, and principles. All rights for members are outlined in the Constitution of the Seasoned Spoon (copies will be available upon request). Rules for all members: 1) Memberships will be available for purchase at the Seasoned Spoon only. 2) New members shall be required to complete an application which shall include a statement of responsibilities and rights. Background information about the development of the café and its mission will be made readily available to members. 3) Identification must be shown in order for discounts to be redeemed. 4) Unless otherwise determined by the Board of Directors an individual membership is valid during the academic year in which it is purchased. The academic year is defined as the days between September 1 and April 30. 5) Membership fees are not refundable. 6) There are three kinds of memberships offered: Individual (A), Working Volunteer (B), Non-Profit Organization/Business (C). (A) Individual Members A1) An individual membership can be purchased for a cost of $10.00 for students and $20.00 for waged persons. This membership guarantees a pre-determined discount off the displayed price of food items. A2) An individual membership is only valid for use by one person. A3) Board members are expected to purchase individual memberships to receive member status. (B) Working Volunteer Members B1) Working volunteer memberships are only available to persons already holding an individual membership B2) Persons may qualify for volunteer memberships after completing a training session and signing a work agreement. B3) This membership may be revoked if the “ Working Volunteer Agreement” is breeched. B4) Working volunteer members hold all of the same rights as individual members. As well they receive an additional discount to be approved by a meeting of the members. B5) There are a limited number of Working Volunteer memberships available. These memberships will only be available at designated times throughout the academic year. B6) A Working Volunteer membership is only valid for use by one person. (C) Non-Profit Organization or Business Members C1) A Non-Profit Organization membership or Business membership can be purchased (price TBA). C2) These memberships entitle the non-profit organization or business to a pre-determined discount on catering and dish rental services. C3) This membership does not entitle the organization or business to the rights or discounts of individual members. C4) Non-profit organizations and businesses can not become Working Volunteer members. C5) Each non-profit organization or business shall designate no more than three of its members/staff to use the membership on their behalf. The academic year is defined as the days between September 1 and April 30 • Membership fees are not refundable • Members are not be liable for any debts or obligations of the café except as otherwise provided by law Individual Membership Rights and Responsibilities Rights: • participate in membership meetings and elections • vote at general membership meetings on membership fees, deposits, rates and privileges • have reasonable access to café records, financial information and membership policy • communicate opinions about the operation of the café to the Board and management • receive any membership benefits established by the board · speak at board meetings with the consent of the chairperson Responsibilities: • show identification in order for discounts to be redeemed • support the café by doing business with it • update membership information in café records • abide by policies and procedures properly adopted by the cafe. Termination of Membership The board may terminate the membership of any member for the following reasons: theft, vandalism, inactivity, failure to maintain current records, or failure to observe policies or procedure. No membership shall be terminated without reasonable attempt to notify the member. A member may appeal their termination at a membership meeting. I have read and understand the terms of this agreement and agree to abide by them. Additionally I have signed a membership card and paid my membership dues. Seasoned Spoon Working Volunteer Membership Agreement The Seasoned Spoon Café Cooperative offers Working Volunteer memberships which allow individuals to gain a greater understanding of the operations and to gain valuable skills. This membership option reinforces the principles on which the Seasoned Spoon is based by creating a sense of community, long-term support and commitment. The following are the guidelines for Working Volunteer memberships at the Seasoned Spoon: • Without discrimination, any individual is eligible for a Working Volunteer membership providing that individual is supportive of the Seasoned Spoons services, co-operative organization, purposes, and principles and signs the working volunteer agreement. • Membership is valid during the academic year in which it is purchased. The academic year is defined as the days between September 1 and April 3.0 • Members are not liable for any debts or obligations of the Seasoned Spoon except as otherwise provided by law. • Working Volunteer memberships are only available to persons already holding an individual membership. • Persons may qualify for volunteer memberships only after completing a training session and signing this membership agreement. • Working volunteer members hold all of the same rights as individual members and must also abide by the Individual Membership Agreement. • Working volunteer members receive an additional discount to be approved by a meeting of the members. • Have the right to fair treatment and a safe working environment. • A Working Volunteer membership is only valid for use by one person. • There are a limited number of Working Volunteer memberships available. These memberships will only be available at designated times throughout the Academic year. • There will be no more than two volunteers working in the Seasoned Spoon any one time. • Working Volunteers are prohibited from using the cash register. Responsibilities of Working Volunteer Members • Successful completion of working volunteer training program • Work on tasks assigned by Seasoned Spoon staff or outlined in the volunteer task list • Spend no less than 1 hour per week volunteering • Begin all shifts on time. • Find another trained volunteer as a replacement if they cannot make their shift. *It is the responsibility of both the replacement and scheduled volunteer to notify the Seasoned Spoon staff of shift changes. The switch will be considered complete only when both parties have confirmed the change with staff. Termination of Working Volunteer Memberships Working volunteer memberships will automatically be revoked if the member misses two scheduled shifts without finding a replacement or making up the time. As determined by the Board of Directors Working Volunteer memberships may be revoked if any of the other terms of this agreement or the Individual Membership Agreement are breeched.
