S.A.S.S. Songwriting Contest

S.A.S.S. sponsors a yearly Songwriting Contest at no cost to its members. Songwriters retain 100% of their publishing rights. The Top Ten Songs win a high-quality (approximately $2000 value) recording. All songs submitted are adjudicated by a team of songwriting judges who are not aware of the author of the songs at the time of voting.

Check back here for details about the 2008 Songwriting Contest.

For the 2007 Songwriting Contest, songwriters were invited to write songs to make a positive difference in the world, with an environmental theme for the "Save the Planet" contest. Judges included Lance Hoppen of the band Orleans, who had international hits with "Still the One" and "Love Takes Time". Other judges included Robyn Taylor-Drake, two-term president of the Nashville Publishers Network, as well as Dale Russell, formerly of the Guess Who.

For the 2006 Songwriting Contest, songwriters also had a chance to share their songs along the theme of "Songs That Make a Difference" with relief organizations such as Amnesty International and World Vision Canada. For 2006, the head judge was Steppenwolf's John Kay. Check out the results of the March 6, 2006 "Songs That Make a Difference" Contest at 2006 Song Contest.
