Roles and Responsibilities

Training Dates: (In October & January) check our Calendar

    The 1st Training Day is mandatory for all volunteers unless you are returning to the same program.  Training will take place shortly after the application deadline in October.
    
The Re-Training Day is mandatory for all volunteers (new and returning). Re-training takes place during January at the same time as our Annual Conference.
    Training will take up to half a day and will specify more detailed information about individual programs.

Please Note:

    As a Frontier College at Trent University Volunteer, you are eligible to receive a letter of reference as well as a certificate of participation in our program. In order for us to verify your attendance you MUST sign-in each and every time at your program.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

Tutoring                                                                                                                

Where: Peterborough Public Library
When: One hour, between Monday and Thursday (4pm til 8pm)

Before you begin Tutoring:
1. Complete application process.
2. Attend mandatory training session.

3. Pick up learner information profile and
kid kit from Frontier College at Trent University Office.
4. Initiate contact with parent or guardian of learner to set up meet time.

5. Provide parent our guardian with your contact information (email or phone number).

During Tutoring Sessions:

1. Be punctual and prepared with identification we provide.

2. Come prepared with a lesson plan or activities.

3. Find your learner.

4. Sign in with Monitor.

5. Work for one hour with learner, catering to their individual needs.

6. Maintain a healthy working environment as much as possible.

7. Have fun!
8. Ensure learner is safely returned to parent or guardian at the completion of the session.
During the School Year:

1. Attend mandatory retraining day.

2. Notify our office and the parent or guardian in advance if you cannot attend a tutoring session.

3. Attend sessions each week with learner.

At the End of the School Year:
1. Return all borrowed resources, learner profile(s) and kid kits.

Homework Club                                                                                                       

Where: Prince of Wales Public School, downtown Peterborough
When: One hour at time specified during training

Before you begin the Homework Club:
1. Complete application process.
2. Attend mandatory training session.
During Homework Club:
1. Be punctual and prepared with identification we provide.
2. Come prepared to work on a variety of homework assignments with one or several children.

3. Sign in.

4. Have fun!

During the School Year:

1. Attend mandatory retraining day.

2. Notify FC@TU and program location in advance if you cannot attend a session.

3. Attend sessions each week.

At the End of the School Year:

1. Return all borrowed resources.

Community Reading Circle                                                                                        

Where: Trent Child Care Centre or Peterborough Family Resource Centre
When: 1/2 hour at time specified during training

Before you begin the Reading Circle:

~ Attend mandatory training session.

During Reading Circle:
1. Be punctual and prepared with identification we provide.
2. Come prepared with an assortment of reading resources.
3. Sign in.

4. Have fun!

During the School Year:

~ Attend mandatory retraining day.

~ Attend sessions each week.

Senior Reading Companions                                                                                     

Where: Riverview Manor
When: One hour as determined by Manor
Before you begin the Senior Program:
~
Complete application process.
~ Attend mandatory training session.

During the Senior Program:
1. Be punctual and prepared with identification we provide.
2. Come prepared with an assortment of reading resources.

3. Sign in.

4. Have fun!

During the School Year:
~ Attend mandatory retraining day.
~ Notify FC@TU and program location in advance if you cannot attend a session.

~ Attend sessions each week.

At the End of the School Year:

~ Return all borrowed resources.
