Getting Involved
What does it mean to be a member of the ABS? The purpose of the Association for Bahá'í Studies at Trent University is to study the teachings history and philosophy of the Bahá'í Faith and their application to the present world. Membership in the Trent ABS is open to all Trent students, staff and faculty, past or present, and there are no fees or special requirements. Although many members of the ABS are also members of the Bahá'í Faith, this is not a requirement and the ABS welcomes like-minded people of any religious background, ethnicity, or cultural heritage as full members of the Trent Association for Bahá'í Studies. A diversity of viewpoints and backgrounds ensures that discussion is always lively and interesting, full of new ideas and novel ways of looking at things. As one of the most active student groups at Trent, the ABS holds weekly open planning meetings. Reflecting, brainstorming, consulting and planning upcoming events, workshops, study circles, fun activities and guest lectures forms an integral part of our weekly meetings. Opportunities to plan and coordinate activities are shared among the membership of the ABS. All members of the ABS are eligible to vote for and be elected to the ABS Executive which consists of three positions (Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer). If you'd like to find out more about becoming a member of the ABS please email abs@trentu.ca. The ABS maintains an email mailing list which serves as our main means of communication to inform the Trent community about upcoming guest lecturers, workshops, events, study circles, and devotional gatherings hosted by the Association for Bahá'í Studies. Please email abs@trentu.ca and request to be added to the email list. To unsubscribe, simply let us know that you would no longer like to receive updates and you will be removed from the list.
Yes we can! The ABS continues to be a great resource of materials, books, information and consultation for many Trent students doing projects or writing papers about the Bahá'í Faith. The extraordinary history of the Bahá'í community, from its early heroes and heroines to its progressive and world embracing community of followers today has inspired a good number of essays and papers written by Trent students. The ABS is happy to be of assistance. Please email abs@trentu.ca to let us know how we can help.
There are plenty of opportunities to learn about the Bahá'í Faith, its teachings, history and practices, at Trent University. If you are interested in exploring Bahá'í teachings on topics like prayer, the soul, and life & death, you are welcome to join one of our study circles. The ABS also holds multi-faith devotional gatherings weekly, where people from many backgrounds explore scripture from the worlds great traditions. The ABS holds an event at the beginning of each semester called "Baha'i What?" which is an introduction to the Bahá'í Faith and Bahá'í Studies at Trent. One of the central principles of the Bahá'í Faith is individual investigation of truth. The Association for Bahá'í Studies has a lending library, and we would be happy to share with you Bahá'í writings for personal study. Also, check out our links page for other websites with accurate information about the Bahá'í Faith. Please contact abs@trentu.ca to get in touch with Laura.
