Peer Mentoring in Oshawa
Students Helping Students! That’s our motto down here in the Peer Mentoring Program at Trent in Oshawa. Currently, the Peer Mentoring Program has over 35 volunteers who strive to create a fun and caring learning environment, as well as academic success for all undergraduate students. The program is run by students and offers services to most disciplines and includes one on one study sessions, study groups, confidence and support, tips for success in regards to exam preparation, study techniques, note taking etc., locating other resources in Oshawa such as academic counselling and academic skills, and adjusting to university life. Mentors are upper-year students, in good academic standing, who volunteer their time to help others. The program does not only benefit mentees, as it is deemed highly beneficial for mentors as well. Through the program, mentors receive a sense of leadership, student involvement, a voice, strengthened interpersonal skills and professionalism, as well as a sense of belonging, unity and friendship. The Peer Mentoring Program in Oshawa is a great way for students to become connected to the campus, other students and professors. Mentors often volunteer their time to other campus events such as Trent Open House, New Student Orientation, Trent Identity Week and Trent in Oshawa Pub Night just to name a few. The Trent in Oshawa Peer Mentoring Program is truly life changing for all involved regardless if you’re the one receiving some guidance or you’re the one providing guidance. Getting involved with the program or utilizing its resources is highly recommended to all students.
