Professor Bandyopadhyay's main areas of interest in sociology are the sociology of religion, including the intellectual history of this sub-field; sociological theory, especially as it relates to certain philosophical issues in comparative analysis; the interface of economic analysis and sociological concerns; and the sociology of law and different jurisprudential traditions. Apart from the specifically sociological work, Pradeep continues to cultivate his love of philosophy and has been writing and lecturing in the philosophical analysis of inter-religious and inter-cultural understanding, and is conducting research into the philosophy of language and the modes of rationality in Indian philosophy in relation to similar or analogous developments in Western thought.
