Field Placement

In years three and four of the program, students will spend more than 700 hours of supervised clinical placement. These placements will be in the Peterborough and Durham areas. Placements can be as far as one hour away from the assigned campus and students are responsible for their own transportation to and from their placement sites.

Year 3 placement will take place in the winter semester and is meant to acquaint students with the social work field, begin to build "hands on" experience, as well as learn to integrate theory and practice. Year 4 placement will span the entire year and will provide further practical "hands on" experience.

Examples of field placements could include community counselling centres, sexual assault centres, mental health services, and schools.

All successful applicants to the professional years are required annually to obtain and pass a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. A student with a criminal record that is unacceptable to a placement agency may be unable to complete the program.
