 Dr. Elaine StavroAssociate Professor
Profile Professor Stavro is a graduate of the University of Toronto, where she received a Ph.D. with a thesis on the political theory of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. She taught in England at Wolverhampton, Guildhall, North London and Middlesex universities, before returning to Canada to teach first at Queen's University and then, in 1990, at Trent. She has taught courses in traditional and contemporary political theory, the latter including "Theorizing Political Change" and "Feminists Theorize the Political." Her research has centred mainly on the field of feminist theory. Her publications include "The Contribution of a Non-Rationalist Humanism to Feminist Theory" (Canadian Humanities Bulletin, 1992) and "Towards a Posthumanist Feminism" (Economy and Society, 1994). At present, she is completing a book on Merleau-Ponty and reconsidering the thought of Simone de Beauvoir in the context of current feminist theory. Dr. Stavro will be Acting Chair for Theory, Culture and Politics for 2011-12 and will teach: POST 3360H/FA: The Body Politics/The Body in Politics
