What is New Student Orientation?

New Student Orientation (NSO) sessions are held throughout the summer, and are an opportunity for new students to visit campus for a day and attend a variety of presentations and information sessions designed to help new students and their families with their transition to university.

Students will have the opportunity to learn more about:

      • Registering for courses
      • Time management
      • Making academic decisions
      • What to expect when you arrive in September
      • Student life, clubs and groups, athletics, and more!

Also, students will have the chance to meet with an academic advisor, talk to representatives from housing services about residence, take a tour of the colleges and see their residence!

Why you can't miss NSO

NSO helps students understand what to expect when they start at Trent, helps to familiarize them with the Trent Campus, and is a great opportunity for students to have all of their questions answered.

Research shows that students who attend NSO are more likely to achieve academic success in their first year at Trent, and can be more successful in completing their degree.

If you have any questions about New Student Orientation or need assistance registering for NSO, please do not hesitate to contact us!  Our New Student Orientation Staff will help to answer all of your questions!

Experience Bring It On!

The Bring it On Program provides students with a chance to learn and build strategies for academic and social success through participating in a wide variety of interactive and fun activities with other first year students new to Trent!

How does Bring It On work?

After attending your NSO session, you will have the opportunity to stay over night in residence and participate in Bring It On. Students spend the weekend in small groups with other first year students, participating in a variety of activities across campus led by upper year students.

Some of the activities include rock climbing in the newly renovated Athletics Centre, canoeing on the Otonabee River, hiking up the famous Trent Drumlin, and attending several workshops designed to make your transition to university an easy one! Bring It On is a great opportunity to meet other first year students who are coming to Trent in the fall.
