Trent University to Close Peterborough and Oshawa Campuses during Campus-Wide Power Shutdown May 9-11, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

All sites to reopen May 12 for summer courses

Wednesday, April 9, 2014, Peterborough, Ontario

Trent University’s Peterborough and Oshawa campuses will be closed for a three-day period from May 9 – 11, 2014 in order to replace and upgrade the University’s 50-year-old electrical supply service.

The upgrades to the electrical facilities will protect the campus and provide redundancies to ensure that the University has a sufficient power supply in an emergency.

The 72-hour planned closure will involve a complete power shutdown requiring a University-wide closure including Symons Campus, Traill College and Trent University Oshawa Thornton Road campus, due to the disruption of key IT services and other core amenities.

The timing for the electrical work was planned to cause minimal disruption to student activity. The campus will reopen on Monday, May 12 for the beginning of the summer course session.

All services and activities will be closed during the shutdown, including the library, Trent Child Care, Athletics and Conferences, etc. There will be no events scheduled at the University during the planned closure.

University security services will be active on all sites. In case of emergency, Security can be reached at 705-748-1333 in Peterborough and 905-435-5111 in Oshawa.
