Top U16 and U17 Ontario Girls Soccer Players Compete in Showcase Tournament at Trent University

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tournament runs April 30-May 1 at Justin Chiu Stadium and provides opportunity for elite athletes to display talents for varsity coaches and recruiters

Thursday, April 28, 2011, Peterborough

The Trent University women’s varsity soccer team, together with the East Central Ontario Soccer Association (ECOSA), will host the province’s top U16 and U17 girl’s soccer players at a Showcase Tournament to be held at Trent’s Justin Chiu Stadium on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, 2011.

The tournament is designed to provide an opportunity for elite athletes born in 1994 and 1995 to display their talents in a highly competitive environment and is directed at players who wish to further their soccer careers and education at an accredited Canadian institution. Coaches and recruiters from various Canadian universities and colleges (including Trent, Brock, Carleton, Cape Breton, Laurentian, Nipissing, Queen’s, Toronto, York, and Wilfrid Laurier) will in attendance to watch the competition.

“This is the only Ontario Showcase tournament with a focus on Canadian university recruitment,” says Joe Muldoon, head coach of the Trent Excalibur varsity women’s soccer team. “It also provides a great opportunity for top players to visit the Trent campus and see what the University has to offer.”

Members of Trent’s varsity soccer team will be in attendance to talk to visiting players about the varsity athletic experience at the University. Also on display at the tournament will be Trent’s state-of-the-art athletics facilities, including artificial grass playing field and the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre. Tours of the University are also available. Funds from the Showcase Tournament will help support the varsity women’s soccer program at Trent. All games on Saturday will be streamed live on SSN Canada (ssncanada.ca).
