Oshawa campus receiving applications for January, May and September 2011

Monday, October 18, 2010, Oshawa

Students, faculty and staff gathered today at the new $11.5 million Trent University Oshawa Thornton Road campus to host an open house for citizens of Oshawa and the Region of Durham, and to welcome the first Trent Alumni Lecture to be held at the campus.

Trent’s Peer Mentoring students provided a warm welcome to members of the community and alumni, and offered guided tours of the campus as part of a widely promoted open house event.

The evening was capped with the delivery of the first Trent Alumni Lecture in the City of Oshawa, showcasing the University’s own award-winning author Dr. Robert Wright.

Dr. Wright is a Trent alumnus and the author of five books including two national bestsellers - Our Man in Tehran: Ken Taylor and the Iran Hostage Crisis (2010) and Three Nights in Havana: Pierre Trudeau, Fidel Castro and the Cold War World (2007), and winner of the Lela Common Award for Canadian History.

Trent’s Alumni Lecture, established in Peterborough in 1989, is a long standing tradition supporting community engagement with alumni and the broader community.  The lecture is being inaugurated in Oshawa as a sign of support for the new campus from the Trent University Alumni Association.  Over 3,000 plus Trent alumni reside in the Oshawa and Region of Durham.

Over 50 residents attended the lecture which was held in one of two new lecture halls which will double as community venues for guest public speakers, performances and community outreach activities.

The Trent University Oshawa Thornton Road campus is now accepting registrations for the January, May and September 2011 intake for degree courses.
