Trent Rowing Club Pledges to Collect Weight of Men’s Heavy Eight Rowing Crew in Thanksgiving Food Drive

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Official weigh-in scheduled for September 27 at
Peterborough Rowing Club

Friday, September 24, 2010, Peterborough

In a continuing effort to engage with and support the local Peterborough community, the Trent Rowing Club has pledged to collect the equivalent weight of the men’s heavy eight rowing crew in donations for a Thanksgiving food drive.

An official weigh-in of the team, including the coxswain, will take place on Monday, September 27 at 3 p.m. at the Peterborough Rowing Club. After tallying the total, Trent Rowing will pledge to collect the equivalent weight in food for Kawartha FoodShare by the Friday before Thanksgiving.

“Rowing in itself is a community and Trent Rowing recognizes how important and essential that sense of place and involvement is. By doing this food drive, we are reinforcing that idea of community but at a larger scale,” said Maija Robinson, varsity rower and a third-year Biology student at Trent, who has been helping to organize the event. “The rowers all thought this food drive would be wonderful way to give back to the community and say thank you for the support we have received. It is sure to be a big task, but we are a big team and we are committed.”

Following the weigh-in, collection bins will be set up across the Trent campus and throughout the Peterborough community. Locations at Trent include the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre, Blackburn Hall and the DNA Building. Drop-off locations in the community are the Peterborough Rowing Club and the Peterborough Public Library.
