Trent University in Oshawa Student Selected as Olympic Torchbearer

Jessica Miller to Carry Olympic Torch in Pickering December 17

Wednesday, December 16, 2009, Peterborough

Trent University in Oshawa student Jessica Miller will carry the Olympic torch in Pickering on Thursday, December 17 at 7:34 a.m. after being selected as the torchbearer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ajax/Pickering.

“I am very excited about carrying the torch because I think it is a great opportunity for the community to come together and help celebrate the Olympics. I am the most excited for all of the people that will be there to help support myself as well as the athletes, and the great energy and atmosphere that will be present,” Ms. Miller said. “It was a great honour to be selected as a torchbearer. I am truly grateful and excited to be chosen to participate in this once in a lifetime experience.”

Ms. Miller is currently in her final year of study Trent University in Oshawa. She will graduate in 2010 with a degree in Psychology. She has been a volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ajax/Pickering for over two years.
