Volunteers and Judges Needed for Peterborough Regional Science Fair

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Science Fair to be held at Trent University on April 7

Wednesday, February 11, 2009, Peterborough

An open call is now on to recruit volunteers and judges for the annual Peterborough Science Fair, which is open to students in Kindergarten to Grade 12, to be held on Tuesday, April 7 at Trent University.

Among the volunteers required are approximately 150 English speaking and bilingual judges. Interested individuals can register on the Peterborough Science Fair website at www.peterboroughsciencefair.org/registration_judge.php Password is JudgePRSF2009 (case sensitive).

The Peterborough Regional Science Fair is an annual event, one of the largest of its kind in the country. Since 1970, the fair has succeeded in encouraging students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 to explore the wonderful world of science. It is a memorable experience for all and a major impetus for many who go on to pursue successful careers in science, medicine, and research.

This year, the winners of the Science Fair will represent the Peterborough Region at the Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF) in Winnipeg, Manitoba for a week in May 2009.

In 2010, the Canada Wide Science Fair comes to Peterborough. This year’s volunteers and judges will gain invaluable experience, helping to prepare them to participate in next year’s national fair, where they could have the opportunity to judge (and be amazed by) the best and brightest young minds from every region of the country.

Anyone interested in volunteering, as a judge or in another capacity, is asked to contact Marie Anderson in the department of the Associate Dean of Science, at 748.1011 x7202 or via e-mail at maanderson@trentu.ca.
