Doing It In Public

The Trent University Performance Poetry Symposium

Take poetry public with a weekend of workshops and performances; all free and open to the public.

February 29 - March 1 2008

Trent University is pleased to host Doing It In Public, a conference in performance, poetry, and publics, from Friday, February 29 to Saturday, March 1 2008. In an innovative fusion of performance art, media, and literature, this event will provide the opportunity for a unique experience in Peterborough. Artists from both Canada and the United States - including Christian Bök, Alexis O’Hara, Wendy (Motion) Brathwaite, Angela Rawlings, Jill Battson, and Derek Beaulieu - will lead workshops and participate in performances.

Performances will be held at 8:00 pm on both Friday and Saturday evening at Sadleir House, 751 George St. N. Multiple workshops will be held from 1:00 - 5:00 pm on Saturday, March 1st at Traill College. Admission to the performances free, and all members of the media and community are welcome to attend. Workshops are free and open to all - space is limited, and those interested can sign up at trentu.ca/english/doingit/program_participant.htm, where specific times, locations, and descriptions can also be found, or register with Deborah Harkness at deborahharkness@trentu.ca

Doing It In Public is supported by Trent University, The Canada Council for the Arts, and The League of Canadian Poets, in the interest of making performance and poetry accessible to the public. Attendance, participation, and interest are encouraged.
