Rooke Lecture Series Continues January 24 at the Public Library

Award-Winning Author Charles Foran to Discuss Mordecai Richler

Wednesday, January 23, 2008, Peterborough

The tenth annual Rooke Lecture Series, entitled “The Joy of Texts” continues with an engaging presentation by Charles Foran at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2008 taking place in the Peterborough Public Library.

Mr. Foran will be speaking about one of Canada’s favourite authors, Mordecai Richler, in his presentation entitled “Mordecai’s Version: The Complex Pleasures of Late Novels”.

Charles Foran is an award-winning author who has published seven books, including four novels. He writes regularly for magazines across Canada, and is a contributing editor to The Walrus, a contributing reviewer for The Globe & Mail. In addition to his writing, Mr. Foran has made several radio documentaries for the CBC Ideas program on subjects ranging from Hong Kong cinema to contemporary Indian writing.

The 2007-2008 Rooke Lectures are sponsored by the Barbara Rooke Fund, under the auspices of the Department of English, Trent University, and by the Peterborough Public Library.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and all lectures are offered free of charge.

The fifth lecture in the Rooke Series takes place on February 14 with Martin Levin who will discuss “Great Dames: the Worlds of Annie Dillard and Penelope Fitzgerald”.
