Trent International Program (TIP) Welcomes New Students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Orientation Weekend at Camp Kawartha Begins September 1

Friday, September 1, 2006, Peterborough

The Trent International Program (TIP) will welcome over 100 new students from around the world to Trent at the annual TIP Camp, held at Camp Kawartha on Friday, September 1 through to Monday, September 4.

TIP campers this year include outstanding students from China, Japan, the Caribbean, the Americas, and Africa. Over the course of the weekend, upper-year camp assistants from Canada and abroad will share their experiences of life in Peterborough, introducing the new students to the supportive environment that makes students from around the world feel at home at Trent.

“TIP Camp is an intensive four days that truly embodies what we mean when we say that Trent is where the world learns together,” said TIP Director Michael Allcott. “The opportunity to meet people from many different countries is at the heart of the Trent learning experience.  We’ll see friendships formed this weekend that will last for lifetimes, and we’ll see people whose eyes will open to remarkable possibilities of learning.”

Over the course of the holiday weekend, the new international students will get their first experience of Canada along with an introduction to the University. Experiencing the natural setting of woods and lake will also give many of the students a deeper understanding of the value Canadians place on the environment. TIP Camp also provides students with their first experience of canoeing or swimming in a natural lake.
