Trent University professors and students will be featured in panel discussions and other activities during the weekend. The TVO visit will involve two days of activities including a TVOKids Mozilla Hive Pop Up for kids and parents on Saturday and live recordings of the Big Ideas lecture and The Agenda with Steve Paikin on Sunday.
1 to 4 p.m.- The TVOKids Mozilla Hive Pop Up will engage registered kids in a digital literacy workshop. While kids are building a website, learning how a 3-D printer works, creating a game, designing an app or making an e-book, their parents are invited to the Parents Zone where they can explore the digital future of education with Trent’s Canada Research Chair in Cultural Studies, Dr. Davide Panagia. Parents can register their kids for the TVOKids Mozilla Hive Pop Up at tvo.org/learning2030.
2:30 and 4 p.m. - TVO’s Steve Paikin, anchor and senior editor of The Agenda, will host a gathering of engaged citizens to hold an open discussion on the future of Aboriginal education withTrent University’s chair of Indigenous Studies, Professor David Newhouse and students. On the heels of The Agenda’s Idle No More coverage, TVO continues the conversation around indigenous issues and will live stream the event at tvo.org/learning2030.
12:30 pm - Members of the public are invited to be part of the audience for live recordings of two TVO programs in the Great Hall. Steve Paikin hosts a special Big Ideas lecture by leading education authority, Michael Fullan, on the challenges awaiting teachers in making their classrooms open to the technological revolution that is changing the face of education. Following the lecture, TVO’s flagship current affairs program, The Agenda with Steve Paikin, will bring together experts and educators including Trent University’s Dr. Cathy Bruce from the School of Education and Professional Learning, to debate and discuss how ready Ontario’s teachers are to take on this challenge.
Both programs will be streamed live and available at tvo.org/learning2030 where people can share their comments and ideas in a live chat beginning at 12:30 pm. The Agenda with Steve Paikin program will also air on TVO on Monday March 4 at 8 pm and 11 pm.
