Homecoming & Head of the Trent Regatta Returns to Trent University Sept. 28-30
Peterborough community & future students invited to Trent for rowing, reunions, varsity games and campus tours
Everyone is invited to sport their green and white and join the festivities at Trent University during the annual Homecoming and Head of the Trent Regatta, September 28 to 30, 2018.
This year, the event features alumni activities, campus tours, varsity sports and the largest single day rowing head race in North America, all free to spectators and fans. Free parking is available to all on Trent’s East Bank, via East Bank Drive.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming alumni, prospective students, family, friends and community members to campus this coming weekend to celebrate the annual Homecoming and the Head of the Trent Regatta,” says Lee Hays ’91, director of Alumni Affairs. “It’s the perfect opportunity to reconnect, and to cheer on the Excalibur on the water and in Justin Chiu Stadium.”
The annual weekend has grown to feature not only rowing, but also a full slate of varsity and alumni games including rugby, soccer and volleyball. This year, varsity games start on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. with Men’s Rugby and continue on Saturday with Women’s Rugby, Women’s and Men’s Soccer, Women’s and Men’s Volleyball and Men’s Lacrosse running from noon to 10:00 p.m. at the Justin Chiu Stadium and in the Trent Athletic Centre. The rowing regatta starts at 8:00 a.m.
Highlights of the 2018 Homecoming & Head of the Trent Regatta include:
- Campus Tours: Future students are invited to experience the spirit of the Trent campus and community. Tours run hourly from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday from the Athletics Centre.
- Alumni: Visit the Alumni welcome tents on the Bata Library podium to pick up your Alumni bracelet for special perks, take part in giveaways, purchase swag, or enjoy live music at the Alumni pub gathering in the Ceilie. Stay connected by following @TrentAlumni
- Reunions: 2018 marks 50 years of Geography at Trent, the 50th anniversary of Lady Eaton College and the 40th anniversary of the Nantes Year Abroad program
- Varsity Games: Stop by the Justin Chiu Stadium and the Athletics Centre, wear your Trent green, cheer on the Excalibur. Follow @TrentExcalibur for up to the minute stats, highlights and photos throughout the day.
- Rowing, rowing and more rowing: Visit hotr.ca or follow @rowhotr for the full rowing schedule, start times, results and more information about the history of the regatta.
- Rower’s Beer Garden: Saturday from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m., located in Lot G behind Lady Eaton College. Enjoy live music and food, and collect this year's Head of the Trent mug. Alumni can bring their alumni cards or receive a green ID bracelet to access the fast track line.
The Head of the Trent Regatta is one of the largest single day regattas in North America. Created in 1971 by Trent alumnus Chris Leach ‘70, today Head of the Trent includes over 430 boats 1,700 athletes from more than 50 clubs and universities across Canada and the northern United States. Races take place on the Trent-Severn Waterway, starting at the Parkhill Road Bridge and winding through the Trent Canal to finish at the Faryon Bridge on Trent’s Symons Campus.
Known by the acronym “HOTR,” the weekend is organized in partnership between Peterborough Rowing Club, Trent University, Trent University Rowing Club, Peterborough Community Police, and the Trent Athletics & Recreation Department.
