Trent University Welcomes Record Number of New Graduate Students
Impressive 42% increase in graduate student enrolment fuelled by innovative new programs and transformative learning environment
With five new professional course-based graduate programs, and 19 Master and Ph.D. programs in total, Trent University has seen an estimated 42% increase in graduate student enrolment over the last two years, with an increase in registered students from 495 in 2016 to about 700 for 2018.
Contributing to the largest class of graduate students the University has ever seen are a large number of international students. Close to 60% of applications for this fall are from students in more than 31 countries around the world.
Innovative new programs fuelling growth in the School of Graduate Studies include:
- Canada's first course-based Master of Science in Forensic Science
- Ontario's first Addiction and Mental Health Nursing Graduate Diploma
- Professional 16-month Master of Management – offered exclusively at Trent University Durham GTA
- North America's first Instrumental Chemical Analysis Masters and Graduate Diploma
- Graduate Diploma and Master of Bioenvironmental Monitoring & Assessment – the first online graduate programs of their kind in Canada
“We are excited that these new degrees are resonating with students. All of these degrees include an experiential learning component that integrates valuable real-world experience into the curriculum,” explains Dr. Craig Brunetti, dean of Graduate Studies at Trent. “Students are recognizing the value of additional training and credentials, and are choosing to pursue graduate education after completing a baccalaureate degree.”
Most graduate programs are offered at Trent’s Peterborough campus, which blends award-winning architecture with state-of-the-art teaching, learning and research facilities. The new 16-month Master of Management is offered exclusively at Trent’s thriving Durham campus in the Greater Toronto Area, positioning Trent Durham as a unique place to learn liberal arts and management skills.
