Making Headlines: Trent's Outstanding Architecture Featured in The Globe and Mail
Trent featured in national print edition of The Globe and Mail
Globe and Mail architecture critic Alex Bozikovic declared Trent University’s Symons Campus, “a masterpiece… unlikely to be repeated” in his recent article highlighting the campus’s stunning architectural heritage.
The piece, which includes numerous remarkable photographs encapsulating the best of Ron Thom’s work, goes on in descriptive detail to shine a light on the history and unique aspects of Trent University including the revitalization of the iconic Bata Library and the creation of the new Student Centre with respect to Ron Thom’s vision.
Some excerpts from the feature include:
Walking through the original campus is a sensory feast of complexity and nuance; if you ever had the idea that modernist architecture had to be inhumane, this place will cure you of that notion.
I tried to imagine four years as a student in this place, all the memories that could lodge themselves in my head and my hands. I thought of what [President] Groarke had told me: "Learning to appreciate beauty is its own kind of education."
This ode to Trent University and 20th-century modernist architecture can be read online or found in the Saturday, March 10 national print edition of The Globe and Mail.
