Tuesday, February 13, 2018, Peterborough
The third regular meeting of the academic year for Trent University’s Board of Governors took place on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Student Centre on Symons Campus in Peterborough.
Co-op, Careers and Experiential Learning
A highlight of the meeting was a presentation from Dr. Tom Phillips, interim director of co-op, careers and experiential learning at Trent University. Prof. Phillips provided the Board with an update on the department’s recent work to achieve the University’s goal to provide all students with a meaningful, purposeful, recorded and auditable experiential learning experience by graduation. Currently, the department is building the foundation of the program by promoting experiential learning to prospective students, current students and alumni. Work is also underway within the community to develop and grow existing relationships with external partners to establish more co-op, career and experiential learning opportunities for students with input from community leaders.
Luncheon with Student Leaders
As part of its February meeting, the Board met over an extended lunch with student leaders from student associations and college cabinets. The lunch provided an opportunity for students to engage with governors on current issues, challenges, opportunities and strategies for the future. The Board thanked the student leaders for their insights and thought-provoking comments.
Next Meeting
The Board will hold its next regular meeting on March 23, 2018 at the Durham Greater Toronto Area Campus in Oshawa.
