B.Ed. Recruiting Fair Opens Doors to New Possibilities
Graduating teachers find opportunities near and far
Trent’s annual Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) recruiting fair on January 13 gave soon-to-be graduating teachers the ability to consider a wide number of applications for their professional degree. Recruiters from 16 organizations were present, ranging from local partner school boards to independent schools to international opportunities, giving Trent’s B.Ed. teacher candidates the chance to attend presentations on different pathways and explore the many doors open to them after graduation. In fact, some organizations were conducting on-the-spot interviews at the fair.
While B.Ed. teacher candidates have received multiple placement opportunities in local partner school boards during the program, the ability to connect with a representative of a school board to discuss employment possibilities often provides a new perspective that the teacher candidate hadn’t had before. Representatives from KPRDSB, TLDSB and DDSB were all on-hand to showcase their respective boards.
Finding teaching opportunities in independent schools in Ontario is another route that some new teachers are considering, and representatives of several schools were at the fair to answer their questions. Curve Lake First Nation School, for example, is a small but vibrant elementary school that a number of teacher candidates have expressed interest in.
For those considering opportunities further afield, the fair allowed teacher candidates to connect with a number of recruiters and some international schools from around the world. Engelska Skolan, for example, is a school system from Sweden that has recruited Trent teacher candidates for a number of years, and our graduates have reported excellent experiences from their time teaching and living in Sweden. Some teacher candidates, of course, are looking toward further study or research-based opportunities, and the Trent M.Ed. program was available for graduates to discuss this pathway.
