Windows 10 Migration underway
Trent-Imaged machines
Earlier this summer, Trent-owned faculty and staff computers were scheduled by Department for migration to Windows 10 if they were compatible and had the previous Windows 7 Trent image. To date, we have migrated over 50% of known staff and faculty devices. Computers left powered on and connected to the network migrate successfully overnight more than 91% of the time. Since support for the Windows 7 Trent image will end during calendar 2018, it is important that images be upgraded during this academic year, and plans to replace unsupported models be made.
If you are a Trent staff or faculty with a supported device that is Trent-owned and imaged but you have not yet received communication from IT regarding how to migrate, please contact it@trentu.ca and include your model number in the communication.
Model numbers are located on the front top of the tower for desktops (i.e. Optiplex ####) and usually somewhere around the keyboard for a laptop (i.e. Latitude ####). Users are prompted automatically for supported laptops, 7010 and 5040 models (and this should occur within the first day you log-in on campus), while Optiplex 780 and 790 models require a manual kick-off by the user for the migration "pre-flight" process.
Issues can be resolved by contacting it@trentu.ca to schedule next steps for a failed device or to inquire about the opt-in process.
