First Law & Arts Dual Degree Class Prepares to Start a New Adventure
New program offers students the unique opportunity to receive their Bachelor of Arts from Trent and Law degree from Swansea University College of Law in the UK
“Ever since I knew what a career was, I wanted to do law,” says Alexis Rudat, first-year student in the new Law & Arts Dual Degree program beginning this fall at Trent University.
Ms. Rudat is just one of the many aspiring legal professionals who is part of the first class of students in this unique dual degree that allows students to earn both a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree from Trent University and a Law degree from Swansea University College of Law in the UK.
She says that the opportunity to both pursue her future in law, while giving her the chance to study abroad made the dual degree the perfect program.
“If I had to plan a program for myself, it would have had everything this program has,” says Ms. Rudat.
For the first two years of the program, students will begin their Bachelor of Arts at Trent University. Starting their third year, the class will travel to the coastal city of Swansea for three years to earn their L.L.B. degree. In year six, the class will return to Trent to complete their Honours degree courses while taking a number of Canadian law courses that will prepare them to take the National Committee on Accreditation exams which will allow students to take the bar exam and begin practicing law.
For Avery Peachey, going to Swansea University College of Law will be a sort of homecoming. The first-year Economics student at Trent has family from Wales and is excited connect with his roots while studying there.
“For me, it’s going back to my heritage with family that live close to the area,” says Mr. Peachey. “To be able to get two degrees after doing this program is very unique, I have never seen anything like it.”
